BALANCES THE PRIVACY RIGHTS OF BOTH THE CALLED AND THE CALLING PARTIES.
Per Line Blocking - If you don't want the flexibility of choosing when to block your calls, you
can call North Pittsburgh Telephone Company and order Per Line Blocking at no charge. Per Line Blocking
will permanently block the display of your number. However, you will be able to unblock your number
for a single call. After the call is complete, your line reverts to being blocked.
How to Unblock:
- Pick up the handset and listen for dial tone. Press *82 (on rotary phones, dial 1182).
- Dial the telephone number of the person you are calling.
Per Call Blocking - If you don't want your telephone number displayed on someone else's Caller ID
device, you can block the display of your number on a "per call" basis. Per Call Blocking is automatically
assigned to all residential and business telephone lines free of charge. Per Call Blocking allows you to
choose when you want to display your number and when you want to remain anonymous.
How to use Per Call Blocking:
- Pick up the handset and listen for dial tone. Press *67 (on rotary phones, dial 1167).
- Dial the telephone number of the person you are calling.
Operator Blocking - When you dial "0" and make calls through the operator, such as a calling card
call, your telephone number is automatically blocked. However, an additional operator surcharge will apply
to the call.
Anonymous Call Rejection is offered free to those who subscribe to Caller ID or Caller ID Deluxe.
When activated, this permits you to reject calls from people who block you from seeing their number. Your
telephone will not ring, and the calling party will get a recorded message saying you do not accept blocked
calls.
To Activate Anonymous Call Rejection:
- Pick up the handset and listen for dial tone. Press *77 (on rotary phones, dial 1177).
- Hang up.
Anonymous Call Rejection will remain on until you deactivate it.
To Deactivate Anonymous Call Rejection:
- Pick up the handset and listen for dial tone. Press *87 (on rotary phones, dial 1187).
- Hang up.
Anonymous Call Rejection will remain off until you reactivate it.
Note:
If you block your telephone number or number and name to a Caller ID or Caller ID Deluxe customer who has
activated Anonymous Call Rejection, you will hear a message that the party called is not accepting blocked
calls. You then have two choices: make the call through an operator by dial 0 (operator charges will apply),
or make the call without blocking your number or number and name.
