Distinctive Ring is a feature that gives you or members of your household or small business a separate
number that, when dialed, will ring with a distinctive ring.
When an Distinctive Ring number is dialed, the distinctive ring will alert you who the call is for
before it is answered.
One main billing number can have up to three (3) Distinctive Ring numbers.
- Main number ring = two long rings
- Distinctive Ring #1 = two short rings
- Distinctive Ring #2 = two short rings, one long ring
- Distinctive Ring #3 = one short ring, one long ring, one short ring
Distinctive Ring is a feature for incoming calls only. Distinctive Ring numbers ring in on the main
billing number, and do not provide additional lines for outgoing calls. All directly dialed
outgoing calls are billed to the main billing number. A new telephone number will be issued
for each Distinctive Ring phone number issued.
Individual names and phone numbers may be listed in the telephone directory, or may remain
unlisted at the customer's request.
When a call to one number is in progress, calls to the other Distinctive Ring numbers will receive
a busy signal, unless the main number is subscribed to Call Waiting. If Call Waiting is combined
with Distinctive Ring, the Call Waiting tone will be distinctive, depending on which number was
dialed.
If Call Forwarding is activated on the main number, calls to an Distinctive Ring number will also be
forwarded to the same "Forward To" number.
Distinctive Ring can be subscribed to only by contacting the North Pittsburgh Telephone Company
business office at 724-443-9535.
