Consolidated Communications completes purchase of North Pittsburgh Systems, Inc.

MATTOON – Consolidated Communications announced today it has completed the purchase of North Pittsburgh Systems, Inc. (NPSI). The transaction includes three companies that comprised NPSI: North Pittsburgh Telephone Co., a 101-year-old telecommunications company in western Pennsylvania, as well as competitive local exchange carrier and interexchange carrier Penn Telecom and Internet Service Provider Nauticom. All three companies will eventually be branded as Consolidated Communications.

Consolidated Communications announced in July that it would acquire NPSI and its 141,687 connections in the counties of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler and Westmoreland. NPSI shareholders voted in favor of the acquisition on November 13 and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) gave its approval on December 5.

Consolidated Communications President and CEO Bob Currey said the acquisition complements Consolidated’s operations in Illinois and Texas and will allow the company to leverage its assets and enhance the telecommunications offerings in the company’s service area. “We are excited to become a part of the Pittsburgh area community and are committed to offering new innovative services, while preserving the high levels of customer service already established,” Currey said.

Consolidated Communications now has about 1,400 employees in Illinois, Texas and Pennsylvania.
